Jim Sweeney
Biography
Jim Sweeney, a native of Greenock on the West Coast of Scotland came to acting late in life.
Jim studied acting while staying in USA; “Immediately I felt at ease in front of a camera and at home with the discipline of acting. I loved the problem solving and creative processes involved”.
On return to Scotland he determined to further his acting career. He got involved in various shorts with up and coming film-makers and started to carve out a solid reputation and set a goal to continue growing as an actor. One gig led to another and each job informed on the next. “I love working as an actor! Best job in the world”.
Jim, well known for his lead role as crime boss, Mick Turner, in the Scottish web series The Crews has appeared in films ranging from Independent shorts such as Coffee, which was nominated and screened at the Edinburgh International Film Festival, to big budget feature films such as Ken Loach’s The Angels Share, Terrence Davies directed Sunset Song, and Starz tv`s new series Outlander playing clan chieftain Andrew Macdonald.
As well as his own life experiences to draw on Jim has had the pleasure and great experience of working and learning from TV & Film actors such as David Hayman, Caroline Goodall, Martin Compston, Stephen McCole, David O`Hara, Simon Callow, Peter Mullan, Sam Heughan & Brian McArdie.
With over 50 Film, TV and Web & voice over credits to his name Jim continues to push forward in his career goals constantly seeking out new acting challenges.
